Customer reviews and testimonials are such an important part of online relationship management. It’s often the first thing customers look at when they’re trying to buy a product online, whether it’s a book, a pen, or a dresser. So how do you get customer testimonials? Especially if you are a new product attempting to gain attention, it can be hard to compete with 10,000+ five star reviews on Amazon. Here are some methods for gaining that positive attention.

  1. Create a great product

Let’s be real – in order to get positive reviews, you have to earn them. Trying to create fake positive reviews or paying people to say what you want will just breed distrust in your company. Plus, doesn’t everyone want their company to have integrity and a product to be proud of? Make sure your product is finished and well-created before launching it on the market.

One of the ways that products often get attention is through influencers – whether it’s an Instagram it-girl or a starred reviewer on Amazon. Sometimes it might be worth reaching out to these people and offering a discounted product. In order to preserve the integrity of your company, be sure they make it clear in their review or content that they received the product for free or for a discount. Ethical marketing is the best way to get your customers to trust you.

If a customer expresses to you that they enjoyed your service, just ask. A lot of people will be happy to do something small like a few positive sentences about your company if they feel that you have treated them well and made their lives better. Another method that some companies employ is sending the customer a nudge – whether by email or by a note included in a shipped package – that you would love to hear their feedback.
